ABOUT DR. DEO

Eknath Deo, M.D., has practiced medicine in Long Beach since 1974. He received his training in Hematology at New York Medical College and Oncology at the U C Irvine. He is a consultant in Hematology and Oncology at all hospitals in greater Long Beach. Dr. Deo was the Director of American Cancer Society and Chairman of their Health Systems Committee in Long Beach. He is the Director of Oncology Services and Chairman of Cancer Conference at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach. He was the Director of Oncology at Long Beach Community Medical Center for several years. He is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Univ. of Calif. Irvine and liaison physician for American College of Surgeons for Lakewood Regional Medical Center. He was awarded a Fellowship of the American College of Physicians in 1987.
Born in Bombay, India, Dr. Deo lost his sister to Leukemia at a young age. It was this loss that directed him to becoming a doctor to help cancer patients. He received his M.D. from the University of Bombay at the age of 21 and moved to New York in 1970 and on to Long Beach in 1974. Dr. Deo's special interests are cancer prevention and treatment of Breast, Lung, and Colorectal cancers. He was the Principal Investigator for the National Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment studies sponsored by the NSABP and the National Cancer Institute at the Long Beach Community Medical Center.
